Mar. 18. 1803
I want to see you this afternoon. I hope
you will be at home & not unwilling to walk
at 3 or 4. OC. Tis a fine day.
You were not at ease last evening. I hope
it arose from your disappointment in not
seeing me. I did not dream of your absence
till I saw you return. In such an inclement
air I thought you would be home=bound.
I am but little at ease myself; Yet I
fight against despondency: Be my helping
Angel, & let me gain tranquility & fortitude
from you. The hours, spent in conversing with
you, are my happy ones, & my only happy
thoughts are those which hover round the image
of my Love, when that image is arrayed in
health & adorned with smiles. See, therefore,
your obligation to be happy & in health
Not your welfare only, but mine, hangs
upon the colour of your thoughts & feelings
